How Our Tea Scent Collection Began: The Story Behind Our First 3 Tea Fragrances

How Our Tea Scent Collection Began: The Story Behind Our First 3 Tea Fragrances

In early 2025, we started noticing a pattern. At every booth, our customers were naturally drawn to our tea-inspired fragrance notes. No matter what type of scent they were customising, tea always became a part of their blend.

Customers loved the uniqueness and familiarity that tea fragrance notes add to their scent customisation. That was when we realised: it was time to build a full Tea Scent Collection.

Here’s the story of how it all began, starting with our very first three tea scents.

T1: The First Tea Scent That Started It All

The first thing customers think of when they spot T1 is Changi Airport Terminal 1. But it actually means “Tea 1”, our very first tea fragrance.

We started with green tea and iced green tea notes, both known for their refreshing and energising qualities. We wanted T1 to feel bright, clean, and uplifting, so we paired the tea notes with yuzu for a citrus, fresh direction.

The result? A crisp and uplifting tea scent that feels perfect for starting the day or refreshing your mood anytime.

Fresh and vibrant, T1 marked the beginning of our tea journey.

Scent of Tea: Inspired by Your Love for Oolong

During our booths and workshops, our oolong tea fragrance oil quickly became one of our customers’ most-used notes. Customers created strawberry oolong tea concepts, bergamot oolong blends, peach oolong tea combinations. Each blend had its own personality. Some turned out bright and refreshing, while others felt warm and comforting. But they all showed us one thing: people truly loved oolong tea.

That’s when we knew we had to create a signature oolong scent of our own.

When we first launched it, it instantly became a favourite. Not just for our customers, but for us as well. It felt like the heart of the entire collection. That’s why we named it Scent of Tea. It simply embodied what our Tea Scent Collection was all about and naturally became the star of the collection.

Scent of Tea was designed to feel familiar and cozy, like enjoying a cup of oolong tea while reading your favourite book. It carries a strong, distinctive tea scent that feels fresh yet comforting at the same time.

Many customers have shared that it reminds them of HeyTea, which we take as a huge compliment.

TGY: A Zen Experience for Tea Lovers

While oolong became the heart of the series, Tie Guan Yin stood out in its own uniqiue way.

Tie Guan Yin was another tea note that consistently caught our customers’ attention. Many told us how close it smelled to the real tea leaf. When creating TGY, we focused on amplifying that authentic tea character.

TGY blends the richness of Tie Guan Yin with a warm, woody base. It is designed to create a calm and grounded atmosphere, making it ideal for winding down after a busy day.

Customers say it reminds them of Chagee. Earthy, grounding, and meditative.

A Growing Tea Series in Just One Year

At The Ooctopus, our Tea Scent Collection did not begin as a trend. It began with conversations, scent customisations, and the small choices our customers made again and again.

What started with three fragrances has now grown into a collection of eleven tea-inspired scents, and counting. This collection continues to grow because of you.

If you have a tea concept you’ve always wanted to try, whether it’s something fruity, floral, creamy, or deeply woody, we’d love to create it with you. You can book a workshop with us and bring your scent idea to life, blend by blend.

You can also visit us at the Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre, or follow us on Instagram - @theooctopus_sg to see where we’ll be popping up next.

Your next favourite tea scent might just start with an idea.
